Project
Summary:
This project provided for the reroofing of approximately 193,000 sq. ft. of standing seam metal roof at an
active middle school campus of eleven buildings interconnected by covered walkways. An evaluation report
performed during the initial phase of the project, revealed numerous inherent design and construction
flaws, and proposed possble solutions. This report indicated that a "roof-over" of the existing metal roof with a
new metal roof would typically be the most cost effective solution, although several low-slope roof areas are
to receive a single-ply thermoplastic roof system. The flashing for the roof system was simplified as much
as possible by the removal of 31 ventilation cupolas that were no longer utilized, as well as minimizing and
relocating to the ridge line other roof penetrations. Brick thru-wall flashing and clerestory window sill
flashing repairs were also performed to address ongoing water infiltration problems.
